Total protection for your residence, contents and personal belongings including jewellery, sports equipments, note book & other electronic equipments, your legal liability towards third parties and employees (domestic servants & casual workers), bodily injuries & surgical operations for members of your family and even Hole in One cover if you are a golfer.
Our Household Insurance policy is the answer to your worries. It provides you and your family with the total protection and peace of mind you are looking for.
The following is a summary of the cover, which is subject to various restrictions and limitations. A copy of the policy giving full details of the cover may be examined on request.
Section 1: Buildings
Loss of or damage to the buildings against the following perils:
Fire, explosion, lightning, earthquake, tidal waves, volcanic eruption, subterranean fire, cyclone, storm, flood or inundation, subsidence or landslip, bursting or overflowing of water tanks, riots, strikes and malicious persons' acts, burglary and theft, impact, aircraft and damage caused by collapse of television aerials.
Buildings mean the private dwelling and the domestic quarters, garages and outbuildings on the same premises and used therewith. They are covered against the perils mentioned above.

Section 2: Contents
Contents mean the household goods and personal effects, belonging to you or any member of your family permanently residing with you. A detailed list of items exceeding 5% (per cent) of Sum Insured (if any) must be filed with the company.
They are covered against the perils mentioned in Section 1 above, whilst contained in the buildings and when temporarily removed.

Section 3: Jewellery and Personal Belongings
Your Personal belongings are covered against all risks of loss or damage worldwide except as excluded in the policy.
The following are some of the main exclusions:
- Loss of or damage caused by electrical or mechanical breakdown
- Breakage of glass, overwinding, denting or internal damage of clocks, watches and precision instruments
- Loss of or damage to Insured items following Burglary from unattended road vehicles except from locked boot or glove compartment following forcible and violent entry to securely locked vehicle.
- The first Rs. 1,500 of each and every accidental loss or damage claim.
Section 4: Sports Equipment and Specialised Sports Clothing
Your sports equipment and specialised sports clothing are covered against all risks of loss or damage worldwide except as excluded in the policy.
The following are some of the main exclusions:
- Breakage of bats , sticks rackets or their strings or golf clubs whilst in play
- Loss of or damage whilst taking part in organised racing or professional sports
- Breakage of glass, over winding, denting or internal damage of clocks, watches and precision instruments
- Theft from vehicle, except from when forcible and violent means are use to access a securely locked vehicle.
- The first Rs. 1,500 of each and every accidental loss or damage claim.
Section 5: Computer Equipment and Peripherals
Your computer equipment and its peripherals are covered against any unforeseen and sudden physical loss or damage from any cause other than those specifically excluded in the policy.
The following are some of the main exclusions:
- Loss or damage directly or indirectly cause by theft, unless reported to the police within 24 hours of discovery.
- Any costs incurred in connection with the maintenance of the insured items.
- Property used for business or professional purposes.
- Theft from vehicle, except from when forcible and violent means are use to access a securely locked vehicle.
- The first 10% (Per Cent) of Each and Every Claim subject to a minimum of Rs. 5,000 in respect of laptops/ portable computers
- The first 10% (Per Cent) of Each and Every Claim subject to a minimum of Rs. 2,500 in respect of all other items
Section 6: Cycles, Bikes and Carts
Your pedal and electric cycles, quad bikes, golf carts,
motorised wheel chairs are covered against loss or damage except as
excluded in the policy.
The following are some of the main exclusions:
- Loss or damage whilst the insured item is being used for racing, pace making trials, professional sports or business purposes.
- Any loss of any unattended insured item unless securely locked to a permanent fixture or in a locked building.
- Damage to the insured item caused by any process of cleaning, heating, dyeing, restoring, renovating, repairing, erecting, altering, dismantling or over winding.
- Consequential loss or liability of any kind or description.
- Any registered mechanically-propelled vehicle.
- The first 20% (Per Cent) of Each and Every Claim subject to a minimum of Rs. 2,000 a Maximum of Rs. 25,000.
Section 7: Money and Credit
Cards
We will pay, up to the amount shown in the Policy Schedule,
for:
- The loss of money belonging to you or your spouse, outside your private dwelling;
- The financial loss if you or your spouse's credit card is stolen or lost and used without your or your spouse's permission;
- The financial loss, suffered by you or your spouse as a result of theft of money withdrawn from an automatic teller machine (ATM) following a physical assault within the immediate vicinity of the ATM;
- Medical expenses resulting from injuries sustained by you or your spouse following assault whilst operating an automatic teller machine (ATM).
The following are some of the main exclusions:
- Any loss:

- not caused by fraudulent and unauthorised use of credit cards.
- resulting from credit cardholder not following issuers' terms and conditions.
- due to errors or omissions in payments, receipts or accountancy.
- caused by shortages due to mistakes or neglect in respect of credit cards.
- in value in respect of credit cards.
- if you fail to notify the credit card issuer and the police within 24 hours of discovery in the case of loss of credit card.
- if you fail to notify the police within 24 hours of discovery in the case of loss of money or assault.
- if you fail to provide sufficient proof from Your financial institution of financial loss following an ATM Assault
- Theft by deception unless deception is used only as a way to get into the home.
- Depreciation in value of money.
- Illegal use of credit cards by members of your family.
- Business credit cards.
- The first Rs. 1,000 in respect of each and every claim.
Section 8: Domestic Animals
(applicable to cats and dogs only)
You may claim up to the maximum amount shown on the Policy
Schedule for:
- Veterinary fees incurred following accidental bodily injury certified by a qualified veterinary surgeon;
- Death of animal solely as a result of accidental bodily injury certified by a qualified veterinary surgeon;
- Advertising and reward costs for the recovery of a stolen animal;
- Cost of emergency kennelling for your animal if You or Your spouse suddenly have to go into hospital or clinic;
in respect of animals which are tattooed or referenced by the Mauritius Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) or any equivalent local authority or body.
The following are some of the main exclusions:
- Any domestic animal, other than cats and dogs.
- Any domestic animal not legally owned by You.
- Breeding, vaccinations, worming, preventive treatments, pregnancy or spaying or castration costs;
- Any chronic conditions.
- Veterinary surgeon fees for certifying cause of death of animal.
- Death or expenses due to neglect and/ or lack of proper care on the part of owners or care takers.
- Destruction under any Act, order, law or regulation.
- Death occurring outside Mauritius or during transit by sea or air.
- Animals more than eight years old or less than eight weeks old.
- The first Rs. 1,000 in respect of death as a result of accidental bodily injury.
- The first Rs. 500 in respect of any other claim.
Section 9: Personal
Liability
To indemnify the insured or a related insured for any sum, which
he shall be legally liable to pay as a result of an event in
respect of bodily injury, damage to material property and any legal
costs incurred with the written consent of the Company in the
defence of a claim, within the territorial limits of Mauritius
up to the limit provided under this policy, subject to the terms
applicable.
- We will also pay for your legal liability towards third parties arising out of the use and ownership of the Cycles Bikes and Carts insured under section 6.
- We will also pay for your legal liability towards third parties arising out of the ownership of the insured domestic animal insured under section 8.
Section 10: Employers' Liability
(domestic servants & casual workers)
Under this section the insured is covered for his legal liability
to any household employee under a contract of service for bodily
injury or disease arising out of and in the course of his
employment by the insured whether he may be an indoor servant,
outdoor servant or a driver or casual workers.
Section 11: Personal
Accident
We shall pay to you or your legal personal representatives the
appropriate benefit if you or any person insured sustain
bodily injury within the Territorial Limits during the Period of
Insurance in respect of:
- Death
- Permanent disablement
- Medical, surgical and hospital expenses
The following are some of the main exclusions:
- You being under the influence of or being affected (temporarily or otherwise) by alcohol or intoxicating liquor, or drugs (unless prescribed by a registered medical practitioner) or insanity or venereal disease ;
- You suffering from any physical defect or infirmity which existed prior to the accident;
- You wilfully exposing yourself to needless peril (except in an attempt to save human life) or You committing or attempting to commit suicide;
- Your participation in:
i) professional sports, football for or against professional clubs, polo, boxing, martial arts or use of skate boards;
ii) parachuting, hand gliding, paragliding, underwater fishing, scuba diving,;
iii) mountaineering or abseiling where the use of ropes or a guide is necessary;
iv) skijoring, toboganning, bobsleighing;
v) speed or endurance tests or races of any kind (other than athletics or sailing within 10 nautical miles from the coast);
vi) any public meeting or procession or gathering prohibited by the police, riots, civil commotion, labour disturbance, strike or lock-out or public disorder;
- You being employed as crew member of a ship or offshore drilling rigs or any regular Naval, Military or Air Force service or operations or in underground mining or tunnelling risks and other relatively large underground works;
- any mental or nervous suffering disorder or illness;
- You being over the age of 70
Section 12: Surgical
We will pay, for the person(s) insured, the cost of undergoing a
surgical procedure as a direct result, and independent of any other
cause, of accident, or illness / disease.
The following are some of the main exclusions
- Claims occurring within 6 months of inception date.
- Any treatment or expenses in connection with or attributable to any medical condition (including pregnancy and / or physical incapacity) for which symptoms have been shown at some point prior to the date of entry or the commencement date of the policy irrespective of whether medical treatment or advice has been sought and any such condition or related condition about which you and your dependants know, knew or could reasonably have been assumed to know or any condition (including pregnancy and / or physical incapacity) for which you had knowledge of or had been diagnosed or treated by a Medical Practitioner.
- Mental illness, disease or disorder including depression, anxiety, stress, insomnia, epilepsy, anorexia, bulimia or other nervous, psychological, psychiatric, or psychogeriatric illness, condition or disorder and suicide attempts.
- Treatment for alcoholism, solvent abuse, drug abuse or addictive conditions of any kind and treatment of any illness or injury arising directly or indirectly from any such abuse or addiction.
- A hysterectomy within 24 months of the date of inception of the Policy.
- All obstetric expenses and all congenital anomalies.
Section 13: Hole in One
We will indemnify you, for drinks you, or any other persons specified, may have to pay to other golf players present at the time in the event you succeed in "Holing in One" whilst playing golf on any recognised golf course during the Period of Insurance.
The following are some of the main exclusions
- Any claim where written confirmation by the Golf Captain or other authorised person has not been obtained.
- Any claim not supported by proper documentation and/or evidence.
